Biotechnology engineering

Biotechnology dates from the dawn of civilization, where the earliest farmers selected edible plants to grow as crop and save some of the seeds for the next season, and domesticated cattle, pigs, sheep and goats.

Biotechnology is the application of biology for human ends. It involves using organisms to provide humans with food, clothes, medicines and other products.

According to The Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, “biotechnology is the application of scientific and engineering principles to the processing of materials by biological agents to provide goods and services”.

Biotechnology engineering is the use of living organisms and bioprocess in engineering, technology, medicine and other fields to manufacture products of biological interest. It is the biotechnology-based engineering discipline that integrates biotechnology with engineering in the advancement and application of fundamental concepts of biotechnological systems from molecular to ecosystem levels.
